I have a good mind to drop the 's' on my scrappy bowl and instead entitle this post crappy bowl.
I went out last night to a handmade Christmas craft class. This monstrosity was the the result of two hours of selecting, cutting, pasting and sticking pieces of decoupage paper to a papier mache bowl.
The craft we complete each week at the class is a surprise and my heart sank a little when I saw the supplies all prettily laid out on the table. While I am sure there are lots of crafty lovers who adore decoupage, it is most certainly not for me.
To say I cannot cope with the messy method of patching the papers together to cover an object is a slight understatement. I like my crafty makes to come together in a much more orderly fashion.
I had great fun at the class and thankfully a few of my classmates were equally as unenamoured with the craft as I was. I think there may have been a little too much OCD in the room.
Anyway, now I have a bowl which the little fairy has taken a shine too. I can always rely on her to love my crafty disasters.
I thought this might give you all a bit of a laugh on a Thursday afternoon.
I just wanted say a big hello and welcome to my lovely new followers. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my ramblings.
Am I allowed to think it looks alright?
ReplyDeleteThanks Melanie ... you are very kind :) ... Bee x
DeleteI think it looks great, but then, I do wonky really well! Ada :)
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly wonky, Ada ... have a lovely weekend ... Bee xx
DeleteHi Bee,
ReplyDeleteI'm one of your new followers and I love your quirky little bowl :)
Victoria xx
Thanks so much Victoria ... will be popping by to visit you a little later ... Bee xx
DeleteWell I have never tried this but I think you have done a great job and the bowl looks lovely against the wooden table :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lindsey ... it is worth a go ... you may well love it ... I had fun once I relaxed and realised it was never going to be perfect ... Bee x
DeleteHello Bee,
ReplyDeleteI rather like it very 'on trend geometric?'
But I too, really do dislike a lot of papercraft stuff, cut and stick for grown-ups, where is the talent and creativity in it....oh don't get me started!
Bestest Daisy J x
Thanks Daisy ... decoupage is definitely not my thing ... have a really lovely weekend .. Bee xx
DeleteI really like it!
ReplyDeleteIt's not a disaster or crappy at all! :)
Oh thanks Nick ... everyone is being very kind :) ... wishing you a lovely weekend ... Bee xx
DeleteI like it :) I bought some decoupage glue a few years back, thinking I would give it a go, wasn't sure what though to do with it so it's still unopened under the stairs

Magie x
Hi Magie ... you should give this a go ... it is okay if you can relax and realise it won't be perfect ... have a lovely weekend .. Bee xx
DeleteI quite like it too. The mix of patterns is really good - I am sure I wouldn't have made anything half as presentable! So a decoupage career doesn't beckon then?!
ReplyDeleteNo Suzie ... most definitely not :) ... I do like the colours and patterns though ... there were a lot of pastels and silvers and golds ... so I am pleased with my choice of colours ... brighter is much more me ... Bee xx
DeleteCan I join in with the others and say that, actually, I quite like it! The pattern and colours remind me of lots of pretty bowls I've seen on the Anthropologie website recently.
ReplyDeleteAt least you got to try a new craft and learn that it's not for you before you bought loads of books and kit. xx
Thanks Gillian ... I know the bowls you mean ... now those, I would really love on my kitchen table ... you're right ... it was fun to try something new once I let go a bit ... and at least I have learned the technique ... have a lovely weekend ... Bee xx
DeleteYep, I agree with everyone (apart from you I'm afraid!) - it's really pretty! I can understand why you might not be pleased with it, if the medium isn't fun for you; we all have out own style of working - I think I might have found this quite difficult to enjoy too, though possibly liberating if I could let go a bit! I'm glad someone in your house likes it! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel ... it does require a bit of letting go ... quite freeing really :) ... and yes my little girl is very taken with it ... it may end up in her room if ever we get it completed ... but that's another story ... wishing you a lovely autumn weekend ... Bee xx
DeleteOh Bee, you did give me a good giggle reading your post! I can SO relate to that "this isn't quite me" feeling, but at least now you can say you've tried it, and tick it off your list. But I too have to admit that I think your bowl is quite quirky and fun. Well done for giving it your best.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend,
xx
Glad I gave you a giggle Gilly ... hope you have a lovely weekend too ... Bee xx
DeleteI think it's lovely - very Anthropologie - plus you made it.
ReplyDeleteNina x
Thanks Nina ... you are very kind ... enjoy your weekend ... Bee x
DeleteI think it's lovely...even though your heart wasn't in it, it still came out beautiful! Have a lovely weekend, Shari
ReplyDeleteI too think it's very pretty, I think you did a great job. The Christmas classes sound like fun, hopefully the next one will be more you! xx
ReplyDeleteI like the colours. I think you are being hard on yourself. It is quite cute. def. not crappy.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks like fun! And I need a fruit bowl ... hmmm ...
ReplyDeleteAt least you kept going and made it with a pattern. If I'd made it I would have been randomly sticking any old thing anywhere it landed and it would have looked beyond crappy. Saying that I don't mind random glueing with the girls, but I know what you mean about decoupage.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great half - term too Bee. X
Goodness that looks great - did you make the bowl and then covered it? I have seen a tea set made like this and always thought it looked lovely.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Jenny
I LOVE it! I agree with Tabiboo - its very Anthropologie! And it has sixties-style flowers on it, so it is right up my street.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I did a class on free machine embroidery. I just couldn't get it! My effort looked totally rubbish compared to everyone elses! And because I hated the process I didn't enjoy doing it at all, so I do get how you felt.
