rabbiting on

Hundreds of little stitches became, a cross stitch rabbit. Or maybe a hare. I love hares. A few visit our garden to play in the early mornings.

They aren't always the most welcome visitors as they feast on new plants and vegetables, but thankfully these are an obliging bunch and leave well alone.

Anyway, I digress. Back to the rabbit. I found this lovely pattern on pinterest designed by hancock's house of happy. It was a pleasure to complete and was thoroughly addictive.

I chose different colours and used two strands of embroidery thread on 14ct aida.

I wanted the finished piece to be larger than the original pattern so i scaled up. Each square on the pattern became four, one wider and one taller so the pattern grew to scale. The finished rabbit is 19cm by 22cm.

I'm going to have it framed but need a little advice. How do I iron it to remove the creases without damaging the stitches. To steam or not to steam?

Any tips from you crafty souls would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Ooh I'm not sure how you would approach that crease - I think I'd be tempted to do it from the back but place a tea towel over first. Do you realise you have used the same colours as you have in your header? It's going to look fab framed x Jane

  6. I would try the same as Plain Jane a light iron on the back with a cloth in between but back to your rabbit it's adorable x

  7. Hi Bee, I stumbled across your blog and x-stitch rabbit. It's gorgeous. I used to do a lot of x-stitch and was told to lay the work face down on a towel and press from the back. This helps the stitches from being flattened. Use steam and a dry pressing cloth or dry and damp pressing cloth. I used to get most of mine framed so any remaining creases usually disappeared when they were stretched. Hope this helps.

  10. Oh WOW, Bee, it's beautiful. Love the colours you've chosen - I think you've just inspired me to pick up cross-stitch again :-)
I'd give is a light steam on the wrong side with a slightly damp tea towel, but the framing should help to stretch out any creases too. Can't wait to see it framed. Great job, well done :-)
    Have a lovely weekend

  11. Your cross stitch is just beautiful, I love it! I usually iron my cross stitch on reverse with a cotton tea towel over the top of it, I don't use steam. I find I ave to do this quite a few times to help get the creases out although I can never get it completely crease free! It has never been a problem though because when t comes back from the framers all the creases are always out because I think they stretch the work prior to framing it. Gorgeous work.

  16. Love your hare Bee! I recently stumbled across an ancient embroidery book with some amazing pieces in it, which is tempting me, along with you cross stitch to have a go at creating something! Thanks for the inspiration! X

  19. It's beautiful! I love hares and rabbits, and thankfully we don't see many of them eating the plants round here, it's too built up.

Use a hot steam iron but place a towel between the iron and the embroidery. You don't want to flatten the stitches. And iron the reverse side. I got some embroidery framed for about £30 and it was worth every penny, much better than anything I could've done myself. xx

  20. Beautiful bunny! I haven't attempted any cross stitch for a long time but I think you may have inspired me. This could be the perfect welcome home pressie for a rabbit-mad friend that's been abroad for a few years. Hadn't heard of Hancock's house either - thank you for the intro!
I see you've had lots of ironing advice already - I was going to echo the rest - iron on the back, and use a tea towel! Do share pics once it's done and framed! Have you got a spot on the wall picked out for it already?
