autumn weekending

Autumn week-ending here invariably means a visit to the woods. Saturday was a busy day, with the inevitable birthday party for a school friend. As an aside, I always seem to wind up exhausted after these parties. Though I'm not really sure why, as it mainly involves sitting around watching children run riot. Anyway, I digress.

Today we were more than happy to switch things down a level, get outside and commune with nature. We took advantage of the time change and set off early to Florence Court. We searched for horse chestnuts, collected leaves and played pooh sticks. We had a paddle in the stream and made it rain leaves. We had a pitstop for warm apple juice and biscuits and made friends with two springer spaniels.

Back home after our adventure, we cosied up, lit the stove and enjoyed roast chicken for dinner. These autumn days are my favourite. How about you? How do you like to spend autumn days?

  1. Lovely photos! I love this time of the year too, it's my favourite (along with Christmas)...
Maybe it's being out in chilly weather that makes you more appreciative of cosy home comforts. So yes, roast chicken and warm fireside. And right now any time alone with a good book and a blanket is most welcome too!

  2. Love your photos especially the second one. So sweet! My favourite way to spend an autumn day is going for a walk and spending time outdoors with the kids and when back at home, have cake, tea or hot chocolate while working on my crochet blanket.

  3. Hey Bee,
I often come home very full after taking Olly to a party, because I tend to eat a lot of party food. I'm sure I'm talked about for it too....
We have had a lovely autumnal weekend here. There has been a lot of loafing about indoors, with good food. Yesterday was glorious and we spent the day on the beach, watching the huge surf and very high tide crash up onto the beach. It was all rather thrilling.
    Have a good week.

  4. Just thinking about childrens parties makes me exhausted! It is all that childhood energy I think, it saps it out of the grown ups! A walk in the woods is a wonderful way to wind down and relax, especially in the autumn! xx

  6. What great photos! Love your family in the leaves. I agree entirely about the exhausting effect of children's parties. I think its the noise for me. Not good with noise!

  7. I like to spend autumn weekends just like you described, with some time outside in the woods and some time indoors being cosy, cooking, eating and pottering. Not the kids' parties though - I too am exhausted afterwards, it must be the noise! x
