mollie makes: september

I know, I know.  I am more than a little late with this post but I am cross with myself.

I started out with very good intentions to make the little dog plushie designed by Tania Ho in September's Mollie Makes.

I selected my fabrics.  Some grey linen, check cotton and ditsy floral cotton. All salvaged from clothing destined for recycling.  Printed the full size templates and cut out the pieces.

I even went so far as to sew a good portion of the dog together, as evidenced below.  But sadly, I just couldn't be doing with this project.  It was a faff. So fiddly and not at all how I expected it to turn out.  So I threw it aside crossly.

Don't feel bad for the little half finished pooch though.  Despite having no ears, only one arm and some drawn on eyes and nose, because frankly he was really creepy without them my little fairy has adopted him as her own.  I'm glad he won't be lonely.

And to make up for my epic failure on this project I made a little ruffle necklace or collar inspired by the beautiful tulle one in issue 18.

So what do you think?  I informed Mr F it was a necklace and he looked at me like I had lost the plot. Sometimes he just doesn't get my creative genius.  I think I do see his point but it might be fun to give this one a go again.

Anyway, onwards and upwards.  There's always the October issue.

  3. Sad about your abandoned dog, least it's being loved. I completely agree with you though that some things start feeling like a misery to make and that's not the point at all is it. Love the fabric on your necklace and the wee ruffles.

    1. Hi Ada ... don't let me put you off ... I think maybe you should give the dog a go ... the instructions are good although I think he is a little top heavy ... his head is rather large for his little body ... have a lovely week ... Bee xx

  6. Bee, you have to admit there is a certain cuteness about the little one-armed, ear-less plushie dog! I'm sure Little Fairy will give him lots of love & care. Had a giggle at your hubby's "look" - I get that ALL the time too.. as if to say "what will she come up with next?" !! Never mind, "Women are meant to be loved, not understood" - not sure who said that, but I quote it all the time :-)
    Happy Monday,
    xx

    1. Great quote ... my hubby is well used to me now, too ... he is usually very encouraging although often a little perplexed ... thankfully he is quite creative too, so it usually ends well :) ... Bee xx

  7. Kids can always be guaranteed to love the least loveable toys. Not that I'm saying the little dog isn't loveable, but he was clearly in need of some TLC ;)

  8. Something's are just too fiddley, well done for trying. I know what you mean about this little creations being creepy, they always look weird without eyes or even sometimes with them.

  9. Oh no! I just decided last night in bed that I would make Angus that very same dog (was it me or were ALL the how to projects in that issue bloody hard??) for Christmas. I even remembered I have some denim and linen somewhere that would be good fabric to use... But you say it was hard and yes, it did look tricky. Hmm. I may have to re-think!

The necklace is very pretty, but the way! xx

  10. Brings back memories of my attempted sock dog I made, though mine was a complete disaster (where as I think yours is rather cute)..I say attempted sock dog due to the fact that the stitching was very poor (not hidden at all!) and you could perhaps see a vague dog shape if you squinted one eye while closing the other :P
I do love your necklace..is that liberty fabric you used?
    Have a lovely day..

    1. Oh you are kind Magie ... I'm sure your little sock dog was lovable too ... maybe your little one might adopt him :) ... the fabric was from a top of mine that is a bit past its best ... it does look like Liberty though ... I am always drawn to cute ditsy prints like this when I shop for clothes ... Bee xx
