magpies eye

I love necklaces.  I rarely go a day without wearing one.

Bracelets however I could live without.   They are always in the way of getting on with things.  I can't be bothered taking them on and off.

Recently while browsing in a charity shop, a sparkle caught my magpies eye. Little aqua faceted glass beads strung on a stretchy bracelet.  As I said earlier, not really my cup of tea.

But the beads were so pretty I was persuaded to part with my pennies.

I had a plan.  I snipped the elastic and released the beads.  I found a sterling silver chain in my jewellery box and strung three beads on to it.

Et voila.  A pretty new necklace and lots more sparkly beads to play with.

  1. Love it Bee...tastefully done as per usual.
...although I do find now my boy has grown I do love a dangly, jingly bangle! I think when you are looking after and picking up wee ones they do get in the way....

what are you doing with the rest?

  3. Clever idea, though I'm the opposite - I tend to wear bracelets over necklaces now but used to be the other way around!

  4. That is very very pretty, those beads are lovely. I very rarely wear bracelets either or exactly the same reasons as you have described!

  6. Love your pretty new necklace - the colour of the beads is just beautiful and perfectly offset by the shiny silver chain. How about a little beaded cluster ring with the rest of the beads, or a pair of pretty dangly earrings?
Have a happy new week ahead, Bee,

  8. Love your beads such a beautiful shade of blue but I have to say I am opposite to you as I love bracelets and always have one on, although I do love stretchy elastic ones as clasps can be a fiddle. Hope you have a fun day x

  11. Oh that is gorgeous!! And what a good idea. I used to wear loads of chunky bangles but now I find that they get in the way of everything. In fact, more and more, my jewellery collection is shrinking. But I do love a pretty necklace. xx

  13. Just stunning Bee, love the colour, the sparkle, the upcycling and the joy of you getting joy from these sweet pretties. I love making my own necklaces and have always been a bead and button collector, they always make me feel calm when i see and feel them whilst deciding what to make xox Penny

  14. Great idea to revamp the bracelet into something you'll actually wear! The silver chain looks great with that aqua shade :) I used to love wearing both bracelets AND necklaces, but have sort of fallen away from it. I think I've grown tired of what I have and maybe need to shop for something new. I do wear earrings every day, however, and maybe you could make a pair of earrings with the left-over beads. Wendy x
