autumn light

Some snapshots from our garden this weekend.

The garden is bathed in beautiful autumn light.  We spent a lovely afternoon enjoying the sunshine, outdoors in perfect temperatures.  Another reason why I love autumn.

The clematis is almost finished flowering.  The outer petals have disappeared but I love the spiky heart which remains.

The first apple from our tree.  A perfect, unblemished golden delicious.  There aren't many but they will be savoured.

Fungi are popping up all around the lawn.  I am a little fixated with admiring them, wandering around peering at the ground.  I must look slightly off my trolley.

Hawthorn berries are weighing down the trees.  The birds will enjoy quite the feast and the firewood pile, the promise of cosiness and warmth until spring.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and that the sun is shining wherever you are too.

  2. Beautiful photos, they capture the season perfectly! And I love all the various fungi, too, but I'd be checking for fairies beneath, so you're not as nutty as me! ;-) Chrissie x

  3. What a beautiful extra special apple! I 'd love to have a wood burner one day... Until then we have our fires
outside in the garden in a little woodburner... also very cosy ;-)

  4. Wonderful fall photos ... how nice to have all of this in your own yard! That apple really does look delicious! You'll be happy to have more as years go by. Our clematis hasn't bloomed since early summer (well, except for one crazy bud that came out last month). It's been so hot & muggy here this whole week, and today has cooled down finally, but the rain hasn't let up all day ... as long as it clears the air a bit, I'm ok with that ;)

  7. We are scrumping apples tomorrow from a friends orchard. I know I will get carried away and then be cursing that I have to prep them all for the freezer but I won't be able to help myself! Jo x

  12. We have been treated to rather drab weather in St Ives this week, but the evening light has been quite beautiful - infused with pink. Envious of your apple tree. Luckily I have a friend with a laden tree, and am off to pick some tomorrow.

  20. Oh I need a log pile like that Bee! Just the ticket to keep you cozy this winter ;) Here's a dry autumn, where we can get out and about and enjoy the change of seasons. When Autumn is good here, you really can't beat it, can you? Hazel x

  22. It was a glorious weekend, wasn't it? You have a lovely garden, you really do. The apples on our tree are too sour to eat, I use them for cooking. I love the idea of eating an apple straight from the tree. And that is an impressive stack of fire wood! x
